Satellite-Based Heat Indices for Europe


 

This study presents a satellite-based framework for deriving regional heat indices across Europe to assess thermal stress patterns and climate-driven heat risk. The proof-of-concept demonstrates the feasibility of remote sensing data in enhancing large-scale heat exposure monitoring and supporting climate adaptation strategies. One of the core ideas behind these solutions is to compute a numerical representation of unstructured data (such as texts and images) and find similarities between these representations. However, taking all of these concepts into a production environment has its own set of machine learning engineering challenges: How to generate these representations quickly?
